RT 2020
Positive-Energy House

RT 2020 : from active-energy to passive-energy houses. Discover the features and important principles of RT 2020, the new generation of regulations to replace RT 2012.

What is RT 2020?
Some of the requirements of RT 2020 address issues of energy production and one’s environmental footprint.  All new buildings for which planning permission is requested starting from late 2020 must show primary energy consumption that is lesser than the renewable energy produced.  Different solutions exist to reach this goal, including the installation of solar panels to produce electricity.

What makes RT 2020 different from RT 2012
Thermal Regulation (RT) 2012 is applicable to low-energy consumption buildings whereas Thermal Regulation (RT) 2020 applies to positive-energy buildings.   Some examples of differences are: thermal bridges are less pronounced for passive-energy houses and their heating needs are less.  In a more general manner, the sheathing of a passive-energy house provides better insulation than a low-energy consumption house.

How to get a house meeting these standards?
To transition to energy-efficient standards in a home, several possibilities exist for owners.  First of all, they may proceed to replace their heating system by a more efficient model in adopting for example a heat pump or a condensing gas boiler.  As mentioned, the installation of solar panels may also be a viable solution and has already drawn the interest of numerous residents in the Vaucluse region where sunshine is present year round.

Environmentally-friendly and energy-conscious materials
At Villa Speos, we are ahead of the trend in energy consumption.  We use 25cm red bricks for all the environmental advantages they offer, including being less pollutant to produce than breeze-blocks.
